When you look at your life, do you see a life of blessings? Do you see how much you’ve been given?
You should. According to Longview Philanthropy, if you make $60,000 per year and have no children, you’re in the world’s top 1% of income earners. Have children and make $130,000 or more a year? Then you’re also in the top 1% of income earners.
If you live in the United States, $60,000 or even $130,000 may not feel like a lot. But it is.
With the blessings we’ve been given, we have to think about more than ourselves.
As you read this, I want you to consider what you can do with your wealth. I want to encourage you to give back.
The Art Of Giving Back
The art of giving back isn’t strictly financial, though there is that aspect of it. We’re going to look at 4 ways you can give back through your wealth.
Give back financially:
The easiest and most common way to give back is to give away your wealth. This could be giving money for clean water efforts, to your local church, or to a local charity.
We have the means to do so. So why aren’t we?
Try giving a little bit of your wealth away today. Give to Grace’s Table (an organization that helps teen mothers) or to Team World Vision (clean water). Your contribution doesn’t have to be big.
This is the first step to a heart of generosity. Try it and see how little you miss the money you give. Then, you can build up to more significant amounts.
Give back by giving your time:
Organizations are not strictly looking for your money. They’re also looking for your time.
You may have extra time in your week to volunteer at a local soup kitchen, homeless shelter, or school. All of these organizations are looking for helping hands. Be the helping hands that fill the missing space there.
Give back by teaching those you lead:
Plenty of people in your organization could benefit from your wisdom and insights. Begin to give back.
Give back by passing along your knowledge to those you’re around daily. You could host a book club or lunch and learn.
Your actions here don’t have to be grandiose. They only have to be sincere.
Not only will you feel good by giving back to your people, but your people will become better employees and people.
Give back by allowing your team to volunteer:
Your business is thriving. Your people are happy. What next? Have you considered allowing your people time during their workweek to volunteer for their favorite charity?
Allowing your team members to volunteer is a great way to give back to the community. It not only gives you a chance to give back, it gives your people and organization a way to give back and serve. You reinforce that you and your people aren’t there only to serve one another but the world at large.
Look for ways to allow your people to serve.
Giving Back Is Good
I believe leaders and organizations must give back to others and the community. You’ve been blessed. Now, be a blessing. You’ll discover a new sense of excitement as your people are energized and the community is renewed through organizational donations and community service.
Remember: Leadership is about more than yourself. Leadership is about helping others. Giving back does this!
