When you’re in leadership, there are curveballs thrown your way every day. You’ll also face uncertainty, difficulties, and challenges you never could anticipate.
So, how can I tell you how to prepare for anything?
You don’t have to be prepared for anything. You only have to be prepared for the things leadership will require of you.
This may sound a bit woo-woo or wrong. But being prepared for the general leadership difficulties will serve you well in times of change.
How To Prepare For Anything
1. Focus on today:
Yesterday had its own unique challenges. Tomorrow will bring challenges of its own.
When you focus on today’s challenges, you can be prepared for what is to come.
Work on what is right in front of you. This is laying the groundwork for tomorrow. Tomorrow’s challenges typically come from yesterday.
2. Study:
The Bible tells us that there’s nothing new under the sun. Good news, right?
We can infer that what’s come before will come again. The struggles leaders in the past have faced? You’ll encounter them too.
The challenges might be packaged a little differently but they’re similar enough to previous difficulties.
So, to prepare for anything, study the past. Study the great leaders.
Figure out what they did to overcome their struggles. More importantly, figure out why they did what they did.
You’ll begin to prepare for the unexpected future when you can figure out why great leaders led and made decisions the way they did.
3. Think of the impossible:
Most people never anticipated COVID-19 and the challenges the pandemic would bring. Yet, here we are years out and we are still facing the impact of COVID-19.
One way to prepare for anything is to think of the impossible. Maybe you would even consider the outlandish.
How would you handle an alien invasion? A governmental coup? The death of your accountant?
Each of these situations seems a little more likely than the next. But we rarely think through our actions of the unlikely scenarios that do happen in our lives.
Prepare by thinking of these situations and what you would do if they happened.
4. Change what you believe:
We’re often not prepared for things that happen because we believe they can’t or won’t happen. We have to change what we believe.
Start believing that the impossible will happen. This doesn’t necessarily mean the negative things either. You need to change how you believe about the negative and positive situations in your life.
Begin believing great things will happen. Begin acting in a way that will make these things happen.
When you change what you believe, you will have different results. You can prepare for these results instead of being surprised by them.
Anything IS Coming
You cannot get away from change. Change will come. The unexpected will come.
You need to be prepared.
By taking the necessary steps outlined above, you will be prepared for what is to come.
