You will make a comeback! That is the word God gave me for 2024. Whether you lost something valuable – a relationship, your health, finances, or opportunities – God knows how to give it back to you. There is nothing too hard for him. He will make the enemy pay back everything he stole from you. He is about to give you double for your trouble.
In 1 Samuel 30, David and his men returned to their hometown of Ziklag to find it burned down to the ground. The Amalekites had taken their wives and children captive and destroyed everything else. You can imagine how distressed David and his men were. They wept until they had no more power to weep. That is a crushing position to be in. Have you ever cried until you had no more tears to cry?
And to add to David’ distress, his men spoke of stoning him. These men clearly weren’t thinking straight. These were the same men who came to David at the caves of Adullam. They were all in debt, in distress, and dissatisfied with their lives, and David took them under his wing and began to mentor them. And the anointing on David’s life turned a bunch of nobodies into mighty warriors.
Now these same men began to talk of stoning David. In a lot of cases, when you are under intense pressure, your discernment is not as sharp as it should be, which is why it is important to never make a permanent decision in a temporary situation. “But David encouraged himself in the Lord his God” (1 Samuel 30:6 KJV).
There are times in life where you will just have to encourage yourself. And God allows us to be in situations where we have no one else to lean on except Jesus because he wants us to put our full confidence in him. After David finished encouraging himself, he asked Abiathar the priest to bring him the ephod, and David consulted with God. Don’t try to win this fight alone. You need help. You need somebody to come into agreement with you.
“And David enquired at the Lord, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all” (1 Samuel 30:8). I dare you to prophecy over your life and say, “I’m going to make a comeback in the name of Jesus!” You may have suffered some losses in 2023, but God is giving you a new year.
So David pursued after the Amalekites, and along the way, he and his men found an Egyptian man in a field. The man had helped the Amalekites raid and burn Ziklag, but he fell sick, so they abandoned him. David promised the Egyptian he would spare his life if he showed him where the Amalekites were, so the man led David and his men to them.
When David came to their camp, they were spread out across the fields, eating, drinking, an dancing because of all the loot they stole. Tell the devil his party is almost over. God is about to turn the tables in your favor. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5). So David pulled a surprise attack on them, and he and his men destroyed them all that night until the evening of the next day. “And there escaped not a man of them, save four hundred young men, which rode upon camels, and fled” (1 Samuel 30:17). “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). The Bible says, “The Lord will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways” (Deuteronomy 28:7 NKJV).
“And David recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away: and David rescued his two wives. And there was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither spoil, nor any thing that they had taken to them: David recovered all” (1 Samuel 30:18-19 KJV).
Glory to God! You can still get it back! This is your year of restoration. This is the year God will make the enemy pay you back for everything he stole from you. God will give you back everything you lost. You’re about to recover all! Get ready! This is your comeback year!
