Did you know that planes have an attitude indicator? I wrote about this topic quite some time ago, and it’s time to revisit our attitudes.
What does a plane’s attitude indicator have to do with anything? The attitude indicator tells a pilot the pitch and bank of an aircraft relative to an artificial horizon. This allows the pilot to keep the plane in the air.
Our personal attitudes need to be checked from time to time. The attitude we have towards life, other people, and our careers can either increase our health and well-being or tank it.
According to the Mayo Clinic, a positive attitude and mindset have multiple benefits:
- Increased life span
- Lower rates of depression
- Greater resistance to illnesses
- Better cardiovascular health
- And more
These are but some of the benefits of a positive attitude and mindset. What does it take to live with positivity and maintain that attitude? We’re going to look at those things in this article.
Practical Strategies For Cultivating Positivity
I hope you’re not a Debbie Downer. If you are, that’s okay. We can help you change that mindset from a downer to a positive mindset. There are many practical strategies to increase your positivity. Let’s take a look at a few of them.
Get physical:
Physical exercise is a massive boost to positivity. When you’re moving your body, breathing fresh air, and touching the ground, your body and mind begin to experience a change.
You’re pushing more blood flow through your body. You’re increasing your level of fitness. And you’re building endurance.
All of these lead to a higher level of positivity.
It’s one of the reasons I run. Running keeps me healthy, upbeat, and ready for the next challenge. Find the physical activity that will help you in this area.
Be grateful:
The world isn’t as bad of a place as many of us hear it is. The world is a wonderful, beautiful place with people who love and care for us.
Be grateful for these people, the nature we’re surrounded with, and the daily joys you get to experience.
Gratitude changes things within you. When you’re grateful for something, you feel positive emotions, enjoy experiences, improve your health, and more.
To be more grateful, consider doing the following:
- Evaluate your day – Look at the best things that happened to you throughout it.
- Thank someone – Someone during your day did something positive. Show your gratitude by saying thanks.
- Pray – Be grateful for the day God has given you. You’ve been blessed with your next breath; give thanks.
Surround yourself with positivity:
It’s hard to be depressed when you’re surrounded by positivity. Especially when you’re the one who brings the positivity into your life.
Looking at beautiful artwork, listening to intrinsic music, or watching an engaging movie can be ways to surround yourself with positivity. You may also consider hanging photos with positive quotes around your office. Or you could set reminders on your phone that shares a photo or quote on positivity.
These are some simple things you can do to surround yourself with positivity.
Stop negative self-talk:
Negative self-talk will bring down your positive attitude quicker than anything else. When you talk negatively to yourself, you’re pushing out the opening for the positive thoughts and ideas to come to you.
Limit your negative self-talk. Banish the thoughts when they come into your mind.
As you get rid of the negativity, you’ll find yourself becoming more and more positive.
