The mantra of our day seems to be the need for change. There is no question that change is a constant in our world and lives. But often, it isn’t the change that we really desire or that is beneficial for us. Healthy change is found when it results from vision and is determined by the values and truth of God’s kingdom.

Some years ago, people used a popular word to explain the idea of practically supernatural phenomena to us. It was the word, “Quantum”.

Preachers were speaking of quantum faith. The term was borrowed from science, where we were taught about quantum physics.

The definition of quantum is “The smallest discrete unit of a phenomenon”. The quantum of light is a proton. In simple terminology, it is the smallest unit that we can trace something to. The human body is traced to the cellular level. Then, the cell has many components until many health products are advertised as beneficial at the level of mitochondria. There, you see the idea of quantum change. See amazing results by starting with the smallest discernible unit of a phenomenon.

Think about the wonder of creation. God spoke, making a word the quantum of all creation.

Psalm 33:6-9

• By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.
• He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; He lays up the deep in storehouses.
• Let all the earth fear the LORD;

Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. 9 For He spoke, and it was done;

He commanded, and it stood fast.

So, let’s consider the idea of quantum change in our lives. The growth and success that people are looking for may be much closer than is often accepted. Quantum change says that monumental change can stem from a change in the smallest measurable element of that change. In this article, I will use words as an example of an element that affects such larger components of our lives.

The Bible tells us that two of the greatest contrasts, death and life, are as close as the tongue.

Proverbs 18:21

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

Deuteronomy 30:19

I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;

James 3:5-6

• Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. ¶ See how great a forest a little fire kindles!
• And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell.

Proverbs 15:4

A wholesome tongue is a tree of life, But perverseness in it breaks the spirit.

So in this lesson on Quantum Change, we witness the profound impact of our words.

There is an interesting word that appears in several of these Scripture verses, and it is the word “set.” In James, it says that the tongue is set in such a way, and in Deuteronomy, it indicates that God has set before you life and death.

To set something is to place it in a certain way. For example, the steering

wheel of your car is set in place for a specific function. If I asked you to move your car to a different parking spot, it would be surprising if you attempted to push the car with all your might instead of driving it. Get behind the wheel and drive the car using the controls to steer and move it in your desired direction.

So the question is, “What can be clearly seen as the smallest thing that causes the greatest change in my life (phenomenon)?”

As we consider the teachings of the Scriptures, we understand that our lives are greatly influenced by our minds and thoughts. This is essentially the essence of meditation. “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he,” is a well-known scripture from Proverbs 23:7. In the New Testament, we are encouraged to renew our minds, take our thoughts captive, and align them with the teachings of Christ.

If we think of our lives as a car, then our tongue and the words we speak are the steering wheel that guides it. This means that we can bring about significant changes in our lives through the words we use. By speaking new words and cultivating positive thoughts through meditation, we can steer our lives in a new direction.

Consider the immense significance of the words we listen to and the words we speak.

With words as the quantum, let’s consider them in four important facets of our lives: worship, meditation, communication, and faith.

1. Worship

“What I say to and about God.”

Psalm 91:2

I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”

• Meditation

“What I say to, and about myself.”

Psalm 19:14

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer.

• Communication

“What I say to, and about others.”

Ephesians 4:29

Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.

• Faith

“What I say to and about things and circumstances.”

Mark 11:23

For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, “Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.

Build a dictionary of life words and speak them with emotion. Ruminate them in your thoughts and meditation. Choose life at the smallest measure of your experience.

How great is the phenomenon traced back to our words? Eternity is present in this moment, in our words.

Romans 10:8-10

• But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach):
• that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Romans 10:13-15

1. For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”

1. How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?
2. And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!”

Don’t underestimate the significance of eternity just because it may seem small or unimportant. Don’t risk your eternal existence because of fear of others’ opinions. Eternity is concentrated in this moment. Today is the day of salvation. Be as sure of your place in heaven as if you were already there.

Let your words be the quanta of eternity right now. Because of your belief in Jesus Christ, you can speak it and receive your salvation.

“I put all my faith and trust in Jesus Christ for my life and eternity!”

Whether you are pondering the boundless expanse of eternity or reflecting on a shift in perspective, embrace what God has placed in your life as a guiding force. By altering your words, you have the power to transform not just your own life, but also eternity itself. “That is a quantum change!”
