As we enter the month of April, I want to address the fear factor many in the body of Christ have been struggling with. With the ongoing economic pressure, world uncertainties, and daily challenges, we must never entertain fear in our lives. 2 Timothy 1:7 declares, “For God has not given unto us the spirit of fear: but power, love and a sound mind.” The American Standard Version declares, “For God gave us not a spirit of fearfulness; but of power and love and discipline.” The New Century Translation declares, “God did not give us a spirit that makes us afraid, but a spirit of power, love, and self-control.” Webster defines fear as, “A painful negative emotion of uncertainty; anxiety; anguish; panic; nervous tension; being timid; vexation of the soul.” One unknown author once said, “Fear is never a good counselor, and victory over fear is the first spiritual duty of man.” Martin Luther King once said, “Courage faces fear and thereby masters it! Cowardice represses fear and is mastered by it.” Where every fear reigns, faith is absent. We must address the spirit of fear in our lives and declare victory over it according to the Word of God.
God is Always with Us
When we realize our God is always with us and will never forsake us, fear has no place in our lives. It is in complete trust in His ability to care for us that we find peace and confidence to rest in the present and future. In John 14:27, Jesus declared, “Peace I leave you, my peace I give you: not as the world giveth give I unto you. Let not your hearts be troubles, neither let it be afraid.” God’s Word Translation declares, “I am leaving you peace. I am giving you my peace. I don’t give you the kind of peace the world gives, so don’t be troubled or cowardly.” One unknown author once said, “A coward gets scared and quits. A hero gets scared, but still goes on and wins in life.” John Wayne said, “Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyway.” No matter what circumstances you may be facing right now, remember, God is with you and He will never leave you or forsake you. He has your best interests at heart. He will always come through for you. Dismiss fear and embrace His love to care for and see you through always. He will not fail those who put their complete trust in Him.
America’s Obsession with Fear
Personal obsessions with fear have gripped the heart of many in this nation and around the world. One unknown author once said, “Fear stands for ‘False Evidence Appearing Real’.”
Statistics reveal the top ten fears of the 21 Century as: 1. Insects 2. Natural Disasters 3. Terrorism 4. Job Loss 5. The End of the World 6. Death 7. Failure 8. Public Ridicule 9. Loss of Acceptance 10. Rejection. | Another survey said the top ten worst fears were: 1. Snakes 2. Being Buried Alive 3. Heights 4. Being Bound or Tied Up 5. Drowning 6. Public Speaking 7. Hell 8. Cancer 9. Disasters 10. Fire |
John Paul Richer once said, “Courage consists not in blindly overlooking danger, but in seeing and conquering it without fear.” Hugh Black said, “The fear of God kills all other fears.” Mental health experts reveal, “Ninety percent of the things we worry about never happen.” Instead of giving your mind over to fear of what might happen, give it over to what will happen as promised in the Word of God. There is no fear in love. This perfect love from the Father God casts out all fear. (1 Jn. 4:18, Is. 41:10).
