Soul Ties

A soul tie is a knitting together of two souls that can either bring tremendous blessings in a godly relationship or tremendous destruction when made with the wrong person.

A soul tie in the Bible can be described by the words “knit” and “cleave”, which means to bring together, follow close after, be attached to someone, or adhere to another as with glue.

GODLY SOUL TIES

1 Samuel 18:1-4 (AMP)

1 When David had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was bonded to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as himself. 2 Saul took David that day and did not let him return to his father’s house. 3 Then Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself. 4 Johnathan stripped himself of the outer robe that he was wearing and gave it to David, with his armor, including his sword, his bow, and his belt. † David and Jonathan actually formed a covenant because they loved each other so deeply. Their souls were knit together. This is a biblical example of a godly soul tie. When love between friends is pure and not polluted by any selfish desire the bond between them works well in their lives.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (AMP)

9 Two are better than one because they have a more satisfying return for their labor. 10 for if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and does not have another to lift him up. 11 Again, if two lie down together, then they keep warm; but how can one be warm alone? 12 And though one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

Matthew 18:19 (AMP)

Again I say to you, that if two believers on earth agree [that is, are of one mind, in harmony] about anything that they ask [within the will of God], it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. † The early church was powerful and explosive because they were united.

Acts 4:32-35 (AMP)

32 Now the company of believers was of one heart and soul, and not one [of them] claimed that anything belonging to him was [exclusively] his own, but everything was common property and for the use of all. 33 And with great ability and power the apostles were continuously testifying to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace [God’s remarkable loving kindness and favor and goodwill] rested richly upon them all. 34 There was not a needy person among them, because those who were owners of land or houses were selling them, and bringing the proceeds of the sales 35 and placing the money down at the apostles’ feet. Then it was distributed to each as anyone had need.

UNGODLY SOUL TIES

Anyone can become soul-tied to family, friends, co-workers, and leadership you are under. Carefully examine your friends (male or female) before you form a covenant relationship with them.

Once when I was ministering in Australia with my husband, there was a woman at the altar I began to minister deliverance to. As the process progressed, she suddenly burst out loudly in an unknown language. There was a man from the church there that told me she was speaking the Aborigines language. The Aborigine people are native to Australia. He also told me that she did not know the language. When I asked her she told me the same, that she did not know the language or why this was happening to her. After talking with her, she told me that her grandfather had sexually molested her for years. It was then I realized this unholy soul tie with the grandfather created access to her body and soul. Years after the molestation, the demons still had access to torment her and even speak through her. This is what an unholy soul tie can do. In the name of Jesus, with the blood of Jesus, I severed the soul tie, commanded it to go in Jesus’ name and set this young woman free. I proclaimed freedom for her mind and emotions. This unholy soul tie union was demonically powerful. But we are giving you the truth and the truth will set you and others free.

II Corinthians 6:14 (AMP)

Do not be unequally bound together with unbelievers [do not make mismatched alliances with them, inconsistent with your faith]. For what partnership can righteousness have with lawlessness? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?

Questions to ask before making a covenant friendship:

  1. Is the person a compromising person?
  2. Is it their way or no way?
  3. Are they self-centered?
  4. Are they givers (emotionally) or takers?
  5. Are they saved and walking with Jesus?
  6. Are they controlling or manipulative? (Beware)

When a person bonded to another has selfish gain and impure motives, that soul tie is unhealthy and ungodly. If one has a Jezebel spirit (control, manipulative, jealousy, etc.), that soul tie causes the other person to be controlled, dominated, manipulated by them. This is ungodly treatment and it causes emotional, verbal and mental abuse. God gives us free will. He does not control or manipulate us.

This is very sobering as many reading this are already married or friends with a controlling person. Wisdom from God must be prayed for in ending any relationship especially a marriage covenant relationship. Divorce is the tearing of flesh and God hates it. He will give you wisdom and direction as you seek Him in ending any or all relationships. This is why we pray before making any friendships or marriages. Be not unequally yoked with unbelievers. Psalms also tells us to not even make friends with an angry person.

SEXUAL SOUL TIES

Since the sexual union of marriage ties two souls as one, the union causes the souls to be knit and tied together. An unholy sexual soul tie is born out of a sin relationship. These unholy sexual soul ties are as strong and binding as those formed through a marriage covenant.

Genesis 2:24 (AMP)

For this reason, a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife and they will be one flesh.

1 Corinthians 6:16 (NIV)

Do you not know that he who joins himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.”

Leviticus 18:20 (NIV)

Do not have sexual relations with your neighbor’s wife and defile yourself with her.

Consequently, when two people become one flesh, one can contract physical illness as well as spiritual problems from the other person. If one practices witchcraft or sorcery, or was a psychic, the demon has immediate legal right to oppress the others’ life. The connection physically causes an open door or entry point in the soul (mind, will, emotions) realm. Therefore, the same demons that access one’s body now have free access to the other!

When Christ is Savior and Lord, He forgives the sins of fornication and adultery. What remains are the consequences of those sins. Those involved in unholy illicit sexual relations have to renounce (audibly) specifically all those people with whom they shared their body. This union is broken by specifically renouncing each person by name (if remembered) in the name of Jesus. These unholy sexual soul ties do have the potential to bring harm and cause many spiritual problems until broken.

It also should be noted that it is common for both men and women to have problems with their spouse due to a negative sexual experience they’ve had in

the past. Soul ties must be confessed, repented of, renounced and cast out for the person to be free in their marriage relationship.

Symptoms

  • Oppression from any or all demons on the person tied to
  • Depression
  • Suicide
  • Victorious life
  • Unexplained oppression
  • Torment

How to Minister

  • Repent
  • Renounce
  • Break the yoke
  • Command the soul tie broken in Jesus’ name
  • • Fill

Make sure they have forgiven others, themselves and God.

First, have the person repent of every soul tie. Have them renounce audibly specifically every person by first name. If they can’t remember, have them confess to Jesus that they want Him to break every soul tie they made years ago. They can speak the names into their hand (over their mouth) in a whisper to make it more private. Have them also repent of fornication, lust, immorality, or perversion as well.

Now, the altar worker breaks the yoke or soul tie, commands the open door or access of any demon forbidden in Jesus’ name. Use the blood and name of Jesus as you use your authority to break all sexual ties. Command any lust, perversion to go in Jesus’ name. Pray over their mind, eyes, hands, heart, and body for restored purity and holiness. Fill them with the Holy Spirit and His self-control and love. Have them put their hands over their hearts and breathe in during this process.
